July 15, 2026	The FDA and CDC provided Taylor Farms with traceback and epidemiological information that identified certain central Mexico iceberg lettuce lots as a potential connection to a Cyclospora cluster in five states. Taylor Farms says it spoke that day with the FDA, CDC, and Michigan health officials, raising scientific concerns about the data and the methods used.
July 16, 2026	Government officials, including representatives from the FDA, HHS, and the White House, continued discussing those concerns with Taylor Farms. The company then chose to voluntarily recall every iceberg lettuce product sourced and processed through its central Mexico facility, rather than limiting the action to the particular lots identified by the FDA. Taylor Farms described the wider action as being taken "out of an abundance of caution," and began notifying customers that day.
July 17, 2026	Taylor Farms announced its voluntary recall publicly and began an internal investigation. This date is generally recognized as the beginning of the Taylor Farms Cyclospora recall.
July 18, 2026	Taylor Farms received notice from the FDA of an initial "confirmed positive" test on a central Mexico sample of its lettuce. The Information Hub says the item was being held for testing, was never sent into distribution, and that additional product from the same lot was already included in the recall. As another precaution, the company stopped all production at its central Mexico facility that day.
July 19, 2026	Independent third-party specialists arrived at the central Mexico facility to conduct a comprehensive assessment of its food safety procedures. The FDA also told Taylor Farms that the positive result reported the day before was actually a false positive.

The Current Status of the Situation

Taylor Farms has added a newer testing update to its Cyclospora Information Hub. As of August 27, 2026, the FDA reported that it had no confirmed Cyclospora-positive product test results.

The company also says approximately 2,000 samples collected in central Mexico since May have produced no positive findings through its own testing.

For the rest of the growing season, Taylor Farms has halted all sourcing of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico. Its leafy greens are currently sourced from the United States and Canada. The company states that it spends more than $200 million each year on independently audited and verified food safety protocols.

Any future decision to source again from central Mexico, Taylor Farms says, will depend on the results of the continuing third-party assessment and FDA investigation.

The recall is limited to iceberg lettuce from the central Mexico facility and was distributed mostly through foodservice channels. According to the Hub, the only retail products affected were a limited number of Marketside-brand items sold through Walmart. Those products have all been removed from store shelves.

Products not marked "Product of Mexico" were not included in the recall.
